Erin O’Neill, Superintendent of the Metropolitan Education School District (MetroED) in San Jose, is at the forefront of transforming education in Silicon Valley. Under her dynamic leadership, the MetroED-Silicon Valley CTE Center is dedicated to equipping high school and adult students with the skills they need to thrive in college and their careers.

A Legacy of Excellence in Education

Erin’s educational journey is impressive and diverse. She holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, a master’s degree in educational leadership, and a specialist degree with a superintendent license. Additionally, she’s completed all coursework toward a doctorate in educational leadership from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
 

A Career Spanning Multiple Roles and Responsibilities

Erin brings a wealth of experience to MetroED, having served in numerous educational roles across different states. Before joining us, she was the Interim Dean of Career and Technical Education at Woodland Community College. Her career also includes significant positions such as:
  • Executive Director of College, Career, and Life Readiness at Peninsula School District
  • Director of Career and College Readiness at Seattle Public Schools
  • Various roles in Iowa with Des Moines Public Schools
Her extensive experience covers a range of responsibilities, from principal and administrator to instructor of business education and web page design. Erin’s passion for student success has also led her to mentor future leaders as a SkillsUSA and DECA advisor.

Alyssa Lynch is the Superintendent of the Metropolitan Education School District (MetroED) in San Jose, where she plays a pivotal role in preparing high school and adult students for success in college and their careers. Under her leadership, MetroED-Silicon Valley CTE Center has become a beacon for career and technical education (CTE).
 
Educational Background:
Alyssa has an impressive academic portfolio. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Home Economics and Fashion from California State University, Fresno, and San Francisco State University. Furthering her commitment to education, she acquired a teaching credential, an Administrative Services Credential, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from San Jose State University.
 
Career Journey:
Alyssa's career marks a unique blend of marketing and educational expertise. She started at Saint Mary’s College of California as a counselor in the marketing department, where she discovered her passion for education. This led her to become a marketing instructor at American High School in Fremont, merging her interests in marketing and teaching.
 
Her journey continued as she took on the Career Technical Education Director role at the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) before her tenure at MetroED. Throughout her career, Alyssa has been a prominent figure in the CTE community, renowned for her leadership and marketing acumen. She served on the ACSA State CTE Council from 2009 to 2014 and co-chaired the Region 8 ACSA Awards.
 
Achievements and Contributions:
From 2013 to 2016, Alyssa led a comprehensive rebranding initiative for an entire school district. This transformative project included renaming the district, refreshing logos, revamping websites, and amplifying visibility through advertising, social media, and publicity efforts.
 
Her expertise extends beyond administrative duties. Alyssa regularly contributes to the San Jose Mercury News, sharing insights on educational topics. She also actively advocates for CTE funding, often testifying in Sacramento on the critical importance of career and technical education.

Alyssa's dedication and impact have earned her numerous accolades:
  • 2008: Named ACSA Career Technical Education Administrator of the Year for California.
  • 2016: Honored as one of Silicon Valley Business Journal's Women of Influence.
  • 2018: Awarded Santa Clara County Superintendent of the Year.
  • 2022: Profiled in the ACSA Region 8 Women’s Leadership Network as the November Leadership honoree.
